Child ADHD Assessment Norfolk | Private Psychiatrist, Norwich

Private ADHD Assessment for children in Norfolk

What the Assessment Involves

The private child ADHD assessment is a comprehensive, face to face assessment in Norwich, Norfolk with Dr Fox, typically lasting 1.5-2 hours. Before meeting, Dr Fox reviews any relevant previous reports, including school reports and prior assessments, to build a full picture of your child.

The appointment itself includes a detailed conversation with you about your child’s history and the difficulties they’re experiencing, time with your child directly, and the use of up-to-date, validated outcome measures to screen for ADHD symptoms at school and at home.

Following the assessment, you’ll receive feedback on the outcome and, where appropriate, a bespoke treatment plan. You’ll also receive a full written report that can be shared with your child’s school, GP, or other professionals involved in their care.

Why choose Psychiatry Norfolk

Dr Fox trained in psychiatry on the UCL scheme in London, then specialised in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Tavistock and Portman. His NHS work has focused on complex cases, where ADHD sits alongside other difficulties such as low mood. That experience means he can untangle what is driving your child’s difficulties and build a care plan around the whole picture, not just an ADHD diagnosis.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral although a screening and triage document will need to be completed before an appointment can be considered. You may also want to consider an initial screening for ADHD traits before committing to a full assessment. This can be arranged by contacting Eleanor Lever – a neurodevelopmental specialist.

Will the report be accepted by my child’s school and NHS?

We are not able to guarantee that another organisation will reach the same clinical decision as Dr Fox. What we are able to advise however is the report is NICE compliant and written so that the diagnostic conclusions are clear and easy for schools, GPs and NHS services to act on. Dr Fox has many years’ experience working both in and outside the NHS and understands what a high-quality assessment needs to contain. Although to date this has not happened, were another professional to disagree with the outcome, Dr Fox would offer a further no cost consultation with the professionals involved to explain his findings and understand the concerns. This has never previously been necessary and to date all Dr Fox’s assessments of ADHD have been ratified in the NHS.

What happens after diagnosis?

Where clinically appropriate, Dr Fox can offer treatment including medication management. Eleanor Lever also offers individual ADHD-focused support, helping with practical strategies for both home and school.

Is the assessment online or face to face?

We believe face-to-face assessment gives the most accurate picture of a child’s needs, so we do not offer online ADHD assessments. Follow-up appointments may sometimes be possible online, where Dr Fox considers this clinically appropriate.

What are the costs involved:?

A private ADHD assessment is a significant investment, so we want families to have the full picture before booking. The assessment fee covers a 1.5-2 hour appointment with Dr Fox, a review of any previous and school reports, and a full written report. If medication is recommended, the cost of the medication and monthly prescriptions is paid privately on an ongoing basis, until care can be transferred to the NHS or the Right to Choose pathway where appropriate. Medication would only be initiated as part of a follow up appointment following assessment. Some GPs are unable to enter shared care arrangements with private providers, so it’s worth planning for this from the outset. For an up-to-date list of fees, please contact Dr Fox.
